Pioneertown

For the Christmas weekend we headed to the Joshua Tree area. The stark beauty of the landscapes provided calm and awe as we hiked between our holiday meals and gift opening.

We stayed in an Airbnb in Pioneertown surrounded by stark vistas. The backyard had a jacuzzi for soaking and lounges for nighttime stargazing. I love the dramatic light at sunrise and sunset.

There is a lot of variation in the high desert landscapes. Our first hike featured large boulders and ended at some ruins from a TB cure resort from years ago.

We visited Pioneertown, which was created for the filming of Hollywood Western movies.

Christmas day we took a six-mile hike creating a healthy appetite for the special dinner we cooked.

Our final hike was in an area filled with Joshua trees, which are the defining foliage for the area.

There are other cacti too.

These are a few images of details I captured.

What a lovely Christmas weekend!
