Mountain Home State Park 2026
We have been going to Mountain Home State Park in the Sierra Mountains for years. It is filled with Sequoia giants and is our favorite location to commune with nature. There is no connectivity, we stay in a small, remote campground and sleep under the stars and Sequoias.
In 2020 there was a large fire in this section of the Sierra Mountains and a portion of the park burnt. While there are still signs of the burn, there are plenty of areas to hike that are unaffected.
The areas where it burned are devastating. Many of the sequoias were able to withstand the fire and show scarring while continuing to thrive, but some succumbed to the flames.
The Lodgepole pines and most of the fir trees in the fire's wake were totally destroyed.
We spent our days hiking, reading and enjoying cooking on an open fire.
I loved sitting in the stream with my feet in the icy water.
We will be traveling to Japan soon and I wanted to test a lighter lens on my camera. With the fixed lens I took some close nature shots.
After we left the park we drove to the next mountain over and stayed for the night at the Camp Nelson Lodge. It felt good to shower and it was fun to meet some of the locals and hang out.
It was a great week away and we came back rejuvenated.
